The UBC Research Data Management (RDM) Strategy Implementation Committee was launched in September 2023 to begin the implementation of the institutional RDM Strategy. This strategy aims to enhance research data support across the university while acknowledging and accommodating discipline-specific needs. It aligns with the national Tri-Agency Research Data Management Policy.
The Implementation Committee builds on the foundational work of the former RDM Steering Committee, which led extensive campus-wide consultations and focus groups to develop the UBC RDM Strategy.
Research Data Management Strategy Project and Steering Committee Members
As part of its implementation framework, UBC has established two dedicated Working Groups:
RDM Website Working Group
This group is responsible for developing and maintaining a centralized framework to connect RDM resources at UBC. This includes:
- Updating the dedicated RDM portal (rdm.ubc.ca) as the central hub for RDM-related content
- Establishing a cross-unit governance model to ensure the portal remains current and responsive to evolving local and national RDM developments
Chairs: Eugene Barsky and Mathew Vis-Dunbar
Data Management Plans (DMP) Working Group
This group focuses on developing coordinated and accessible DMP services. It will collaborate closely with the Website Working Group to:
- Review and update DMP templates and guidance
- Ensure integration with research ethics processes
A particular focus will be placed on aligning guidance within the DMP Assistant platform and facilitating its interoperability with UBC’s RISE system.
Chairs: Marjorie Mitchell and Rachel Fernandez
