Depositing data in a purpose built data repository accelerates new research findings by eliminating the need to duplicate work and allows for the verification of research outputs.
Projects funded by the Tri-Agencies will soon be required to deposit data, metadata, and code into a recognized repository after the project's completion.
Data repositories can be institutional, disciplinary, interdisciplinary, or supported by a journal. Each of these, at a minimum, allows researchers to adhere to data deposit requirements from funders and publishers. UBC Library provides access to several data repositories that meet most funder and publisher deposit requirements free of charge. UBC Library can also help you identify and prepare your data for deposit into discipline specific repositories administered by external parties.
In advance of depositing data, you should ensure that you have reviewed the data with an eye to security concerns, conducted a risk-based classification of the data, and that your chosen repository adheres to any requirements informed by this process.
