itations provide an essential foundation for scholarship by acknowledging the work of previous scholars in our fields. However, a growing body of literature in a wide range of academic fields shows that the chances of getting cited increase when publishing in high impact journals and not all scholars are cited equitably.

Thus, it is important to understand the politics of citation: how our choices to cite a diverse group of scholars and how we teach citing to students can impact the culture and future of academia. This session will outline the role that citation politics plays in scholarship and how this can impact research skill teaching practices.

You can choose to attend this hybrid workshop online or in-person at COM 311.

This workshop is suitable for graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and faculty in any discipline.
