Navigating Generative AI in Graduate Research at UBC and Beyond

Generative AI (GenAI) is rapidly impacting academic research, writing, and publishing practices. It’s important to keep aware of not only the ethical considerations of GenAI use, but also how using these tools can impact your work being published. This workshop will explore what GenAI is and how it functions and institutional and disciplinary guidelines for its responsible use. The workshop will also investigate how GenAI tools intersect with various stages of graduate work, including, thesis and dissertation development, Tri-Agency funding requirements, and publishing considerations. Participants will engage with real-world use cases and learn practical strategies for evaluating the quality, accuracy, and appropriateness of GenAI outputs.
